Installing HTTPS Certificates

Why get an HTTPS Certificate?

An HTTPS certificate is a combination of Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and Security (S) protocols.

They are used on websites and webpages handling sensitive information, such as credit card details in that the information is encrypted as it's submitted to the website to be processed.

The website or page that has an HTTPS certificate will show https:// in the URL (instead of http://)

What is the cost of HTTPS Certificates?

An HTTPS Certificate can usually be purchased for under $100 per year. If you have more extensive needs/sensitive information to protect, you will want to plan to spend more as the security of your customerÕs information is of vital importance.

If you are already have a credit card merchant account (or will be setting one up), be sure to check with the processor about their requirements for your website regarding security.

How is an HTTPS Certificate installed?

Most HTTPS Certificates are emailed to you upon your purchase, and will instruct you to copy information from the certificate (email) into a file that is then uploaded/added to your site. The vendor of the HTTPS Certificate should provide you with step-by-step instructions for installing the HTTPS Certificate on your site.
